Fight Night - it's not what you think!
On Sunday, May 25, 2025, Straddie Brewing Co. hosted its signature rooftop event, “Fight Night: Beer vs Wine,” offering guests an evening of culinary creativity, spirited competition, and local flair. Set against the backdrop of North Stradbroke Island’s evening sky, the event featured a four-course menu crafted by acclaimed chef Gordon MacGregor of Wellington Point Farmhouse, highlighting fresh, seasonal ingredients from the Redlands region.
Each course was paired with two beverages: a beer from Straddie Brewing Co., presented by Head Brewer Andrew Sydes, and a wine from St Stradbroke, selected by Head Sommelier and Winemaker Andy Morrison.
Before each course, both experts pitched their pairings, and guests voted on their preferred match, adding an interactive element to the dining experience. The event was designed for easy access from Brisbane, with Sealink providing a passenger ferry from Cleveland to Dunwich, aligning with the event’s schedule.
Tickets were priced at $159 per person, encompassing all food, drinks, and entertainment. This one-night-only event combined fine dining with a playful rivalry, celebrating local produce and craftsmanship under the stars.
Wonderful evening had by 60 energetic and opinionated beer and wine connoisseurs! For the record, Wine beat Beer in a very close contest, but the real winner was Gordon’s amazing dishes. Wow!
